IOS, by applying different oscillation frequencies (OF), such as 5Hz, 20Hz, and 30Hz, the distribution and magnitude of resistance (R), elastance (E), and inertance (I) within the respiratory organs can be quickly and accurately determined from just a few of the subject's tidal breaths. The results are independent of patient cooperation and have excellent repeatability. The entire test is performed during natural breathing, is painless for the subject, has no contraindications, and is suitable for almost all populations, especially the elderly, children, and critically patients. IOS reports are comprehensive, including various resistance data and graphs that fully reflect the functional characteristics of the respiratory organs. IOS resistance measurement has high specificity, for example, it can distinguish the location (central or peripheral), nature (obstruction or trapping), and severity of an obstruction, along with other respiratory dynamic features, aiding in the early and accurate diagnosis of diseases.
